Regina Minute - Your weekly one-minute summary of Regina politics

This Week In Regina:

  • Today is the last day for advance voting in the municipal election. Advance polling stations are open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. You can locate a polling station here.

  • Have you seen our “Back to Basics” campaign? It features billboards, digital ads, and a petition signed by over 1,000 supporters so far. We aim to give residents the information they need to vote for a City Hall that prioritizes essential services. If you haven’t seen our billboards around town yet, you can see the designs online.

  • The City’s waste services are now on a winter schedule, with reduced hours and collection frequency. The Yard Waste Depot is closed for the season, though it will reopen in late December for holiday "treecycling." Green bin pickups are on a bi-weekly winter schedule, with collection calendars automatically updated in the City’s waste services app.

Last Week In Regina:

  • Nine of the eleven mayoral candidates participated in a televised debate. Lori Bresciani discussed proactive measures to enhance safety in the city, while Bill Pratt highlighted the importance of addressing the root causes of crime, including addiction and mental health. Chad Bachynski advocated for more affordable housing, arguing that it would improve infrastructure efficiency and reduce commuting times. Incumbent Mayor Sandra Masters introduced her campaign platform, stating that this term would be her last if re-elected.

  • Students from Greenall High School took part in an educational outing at the Regina District Industry Education Council, where they had the opportunity to present their business ideas to local entrepreneurs. The students learned about elevator pitches, the mind of an entrepreneur, and that building a million-dollar company requires hard work and knowledge rather than shortcuts.

  • Carmichael Outreach said it is launching an all-night warming shelter that will operate throughout the winter season. With federal and city funding secured, the shelter will offer a warm space, seating, and refreshments to those in need until the end of April. In addition to this, local residents are independently distributing essential items like socks and snacks to support vulnerable populations.
