Election 2024: Campaign Roundup - Day 6

Welcome to Day 6 of our Regina 2024 Campaign Roundup!

With the 2024 municipal election underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from residents just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 6:

  • Are you following us on social media? Keep up with Common Sense Regina on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn. More platforms to come!

  • Mayoral Candidate Rod Williams says he is prioritizing affordability and core services, pledging to reallocate spending to essentials like road and sidewalk maintenance. He says he opposes high-cost projects, such as the new aquatic center, and advocates for financial restraint to keep taxes manageable for residents. Williams also wants to support downtown businesses by removing parking meters and fostering a "culture change" to attract more local patrons.

  • Another mayoral candidate, Melina Bushenlonga, says that she wants to renovate the Lawson Aquatic Centre instead of replace it, add a metro line transit service through the city, and create a community supermarket with locally produced food. She aims to attract Elon Musk’s business to the city and is considering implementing licensed brothels to boost tourism, tax revenue, and acceptance of sex work.

  • The City of Regina’s YouTube channel features a playlist of one-minute videos of mayoral and Council candidates. You can take a look through the full playlist here.

  • AccessNow TV has a similar playlist, featuring messages from candidates, divided by ward. You can view that playlist here.
