Election 2024: Campaign Roundup - Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of our Regina 2024 Campaign Roundup!

With the 2024 municipal election underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from residents just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 2:

  • The municipal election features 93 candidates for Mayor, City Council, and School Board roles - the highest number since 2009. No candidates are running unopposed.

  • There will be many new faces on City Council after the election. There are no incumbent Councillors running in Wards 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 10. Ward 4 Councillor Lori Bresciani will still be campaigning - though not for Council. She is running for Mayor.

  • An arrest warrant has been issued for mayoral candidate Nathaniel Hewton. He is facing an assault charge, which he claims is an attempt to derail his campaign. Hewton is also facing a separate, additional charge of uttering a death threat that is currently before the court.

  • Regina has a significantly lower spending cap for mayoral campaigns than Saskatoon. Candidates can spend $77,809 here in Regina, compared with $277,809.40 in Saskatoon, prompting debate over fairness and accessibility.

  • Advance voting begins on November 1st and runs until November 4th. During advance voting, you can cast a ballot at any polling station. To locate a polling station, visit Elections Regina’s website here.
