Campaign Roundup - Day 10:
- CTV continued profiling mayoral candidates. Kevin Kardash, President of the Regina 35 Lions Club, is aiming to bring transparency, accountability, and community focus to the office. With experience in the automotive industry, he plans to balance the City’s budget, fund policing, and explore youth programs to address crime. Kardash sees himself as an underdog but believes he can make a significant impact on election day.
- They also profiled incumbent Mayor Sandra Masters, who is emphasizing her experience and achievements, including infrastructure improvements, and public safety initiatives. Masters highlighted her work on expanding shelter spaces, creating a poverty reduction strategy, and adding police officers. She is promising to pursue strategic tax increases and leverage funding from higher government levels to support City-changing projects.
- CKOM sent out a Q&A to each mayoral candidate. Today, they published Bill Pratt’s answers. Pratt says his top three issues to address in his first 100 days in office would be rebuilding the connection between the Mayor and City staff, coming together as a Council, and engaging with key stakeholders.
- A recent poll of Regina voters reveals property taxes and user fees are top election issues for 42% of respondents, followed closely by effective City and fiscal management at 40%. Other priorities include managing REAL, planning for growth, and improving engagement and transparency with residents.
- Mayoral candidate Nathaniel Hewton remains wanted by police on an active arrest warrant related to an assault charge from October 16th, with an ongoing RCMP search to locate him. Hewton, who also faces a separate charge for allegedly uttering a death threat, missed a scheduled court appearance.
